Berczy construction on schedule

20 Nov

IMG_6609Mild fall weather has helped construction proceed on schedule according to Somerville Construction, the firm contracted to oversee the Berczy Park revitalization.

A project liaison reported that work has gone well over the first two months, aided by good conditions, and most in-park demolition and excavation is now completed.

Soon, crews will begin installing the utility conduits to serve new park features, like lighting and fountain mechanisms, as well as the ‘silva cells’ for new tree plantings (technology-aided tree pits that provide ample room for tree roots and water collection).

IMG_6614Planning will also begin for the installation of the new park features in the spring, including the granite terrace, seating and art elements. See our Sept 10th blog update below for full park description.

Contractors report that no archeological finds have occurred on the historic site, thus avoiding digging delays, and crews plan to work right up until Christmas. They are hopeful that work can continue onsite in January and February depending on the weather. This bodes well for park re-opening by mid-summer 2016.
