What’s new with Friends of Berczy Park?

23 Apr

While daffodils bloom in Berczy, Friends of Berczy Park (FOBP) has been busy working to improve the park:

Kids' chalk art brightened up a gray afternoon in the park, before April showers washed it away.

  • Our working group has continued to meet with the City of Toronto, including Councillor Pam McConnell and the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Dept. to promote park enhancements.
  •  Councillor McConnell’s office is involving us in park discussions, including ideas to bring grass-roots family programming to Berczy this summer. While the first ‘baby step’ was a kid’s chalk drawing activity on Earth Day (see adjacent photos) FOBP hopes to schedule other events in the coming months.
  • We’re working towards longer-term goals, as part of the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Business Improvement Association, BIA/ 8-80 Cities plan to redesign Berczy Park. (See the Feb 29th blog post ‘Public Forum participants…’)
  • The BIA and 8-80 Cities have begun neighbourhood focus groups, and FOBP is taking part, contributing what we hear from the community.
  • FOBP members are represented on the City Parks Steering Committee, a City of Toronto planning committee for local parks including Berczy, St James and the David Crombie Park on the Esplanade.

How can you get involved?
